A Colorful Wedding at The Line Hotel in Washington, D.C.

WEDDINGS

Being a wedding photographer means getting to work with the coolest and sweetest people in the world. Have you ever met someone for the first time and just clicked? That’s how we felt when we first connected with Caroline and Sonny. Photographing their wedding at The Line Hotel DC was a dream, from colorful florals to the custom pink tennis balls at cocktail hour from their pup, Martha (like we said, iconic), everything about Caroline and Sonny’s wedding day was thoughtful, creative, and intentionally fun!

Getting Ready, First Look, and Portraits around The Line Hotel DC

Nothing beats a pajama party with your closest friends with an iconic DC view. Caroline’s morning with her bridesmaids was in a sun-soaked suite that was filled with laughter. One of the best parts of getting married at The Line is having a beautiful, comfortable space on-site to get ready, with access to a private balcony that we obviously had to take advantage of. Sonny and his groomsmen got ready in a separate suite, overlooking the DC skyline as they swapped stories and shared printed memories together.

For Caroline and Sonny’s first look, they met in the bright and airy, stained glass Mezzanine. The privacy, yet grandiosity of the space was perfect for their portraits. Our team was able to just fade into the background and document the moments unfolding, just as they happened. Caroline and Sonny’s joy was so contagious that we found ourselves smiling just watching them.

Bridesmaids dresses and played with the colorful green, purple, and pink palette with matching bouquets of soft and luxurious florals by Springvale Floral. The Line’s iconic details, like the tilted mirror, stained glass windows, and impressive pillars out front were elevating elements in their wedding party and family portraits.

Ceremony & Reception Detail Design

Caroline and Sonny’s ceremony was planned for the rooftop, but when the forecast called for thunderstorms, Simply Chic, their wedding planner, flawlessly transitioned the ceremony to the Carina Ballroom. This is why we always recommend working with a wedding planner who can adapt and direct the entire vendor team! If we hadn’t known the original plan, we would’ve never guessed that the ballroom was Plan B. The organic arch and candlelit aisle were the perfect touches to the intimate feeling space.

After cocktail hour in the Mezzanine, we made our way into the reception in the Banneker Ballroom. All the versatile and gorgeous spaces in The Line Hotel DC make it one of our absolute favorite DC Wedding Venues. Caroline and Sonny’s guests were blown away by the large windows, bold floral centerpieces, and custom dance floor. And honestly? We don’t blame them. Every detail was immaculate, from the custom napkins and tennis balls (as a nod to the couple’s dog, Martha) to the disco balls framed with greens. This reception lives rent-free in our minds. The bride actually works for the band that played at the reception, so you better believe the dance floor was full all night! As the mother of the groom said to us, “If you see the photographers dancing, you know it’s a good party.” We couldn’t agree more!
