As a DC elopement photographer, I love seeing couples create something that feels authentic to their love. Because when it comes to weddings, there are no rules. Sarah and Jack proved this during their editorial elopement at the Riggs Hotel in Washington, DC. This event, planned and designed by Margot & Co., was a love letter to dark, moody events and old-world glamour. The Riggs hotel was the perfect location, with its grand architecture, colorful suites, and eclectic decor.

From the very start of the day, Sarah and Jack decided to do things their own way. They got ready together in one of the Riggs Hotel’s luxurious suites, drinking espresso and enjoying the intimacy of being together. They wore matching blue robes before helping each other into their wedding clothes.
Sarah wore a gorgeous Helix gown from Hera Couture, paired with sheer, flowing sleeves that left her shoulders bare. Her hair, in soft Hollywood waves, framed her face, and her dark makeup was both simple and dramatic. In a dark charcoal suit, Jack’s simple outfit complemented Sarah’s bold style.

Their ceremony in the Riggs Hotel ballroom was bathed in light from the large windows. They stood right where the windows met. White pillars topped with unique floral designs by Cedar & Lime Co. framed the altar, creating an artistic and abstract aesthetic. They exchanged vows privately, and I used 35mm film to document the depth of this emotional moment.
After the ceremony, we transitioned to their equally intimate reception. The curved table was adorned with moody florals, candles, and fresh fruit. Oversized lamps held cascading amarantus. Delicate herons decorated the rim of the wine glasses. Sleek columns topped with burgundy flowers framed the edges of the table. These unexpected designs created an immersive atmosphere that placed Sarah and Jack in their own world. Even their cake broke tradition! They opted for a vintage-style cake in deep maroon with intricate piping and dark red cherries.

After the reception, Sarah and Jack wandered around the venue, taking in the awe-inspiring, historical architecture of the Riggs Hotel. We explored the rooftop deck with skyline views, the grand lobby, and stopped for a drink in the hotel bar. Sarah removed her sleeves, giving her outfit a fresh look as she and Jack laughed and smiled through their wedding evening.

Sarah and Jack’s wedding was featured in Wed Vibes, recognized for its artistic soul and vintage edge. The Riggs Hotel gave us everything we needed to design this sophisticated and stylish DC elopement. Sarah and Jack’s wedding really shows that your wedding can be anything you want. For the two of them, it was a quiet, intimate, deeply personal elopement.
